Administrative services only (ASO)

An arrangement where an insurer or third-party administrator manages the claims processing, record-keeping, and other administrative functions for a self-funded health plan. The employer retains the financial risk for paying claims, while the ASO provider handles the operational aspects. This contrasts with fully insured plans where the insurer bears the claims risk.
