Aggravation

Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-000364

The worsening of a pre-existing injury or medical condition due to a new, intervening event. In insurance claims, particularly workers' compensation and personal injury, this concept is used to determine the extent of an insurer's liability for the new harm. A compensable claim must distinguish the new injury's effects from the baseline symptoms of the original condition, a determination often guided by medical expert opinion.
