Cable Communications Policy Act of 1984 (CCPA)

A piece of United States federal legislation that established a national framework for regulating the cable television industry, balancing federal, state, and local authority. The Cable Communications Policy Act of 1984 (CCPA) deregulated cable rates for most services, allowing them to be set by the market, while giving local governments the power to require public, educational, and government access channels. It also established standards for franchise agreements between cable operators and local municipalities.
