Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1969 FMSHA

A United States federal law that consolidated and expanded safety and health standards for all types of mining operations. The Federal Mine Safety and Health Act established mandatory inspection requirements for surface and underground mines and created the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) to enforce its provisions. This legislation also strengthened the rights of miners to report unsafe conditions and granted federal inspectors the authority to shut down mines that pose an imminent danger.
