Gross weight GVW, GCW

The total weight of a vehicle or combination of vehicles, including the chassis, body, fuel, passengers, and all cargo. Insurers use this weight to classify commercial vehicles for rating purposes, as it correlates with the potential for damage in an accident. Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) applies to a single truck, while Gross Combination Weight (GCW) applies to a tractor pulling a trailer, with federal regulations often setting a limit of 80,000 pounds for interstate commerce.
