Guertin Laws

A set of model laws adopted by states that govern the minimum nonforfeiture values and cash surrender values of life insurance policies. First developed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) in the 1940s, they establish the standard valuation methods for calculating policy reserves. The laws mandate the use of specific mortality tables and interest rate assumptions for these calculations, which are updated periodically by the NAIC.
