An individual or firm that facilitates insurance or reinsurance transactions by acting as a link between the party seeking coverage and the party providing it. Intermediaries include agents, who represent the insurer, and brokers, who represent the insured or ceding company. Reinsurance intermediaries specialize in placing reinsurance contracts on behalf of primary insurers with one or more reinsurers, earning a commission for their services.
