Ceding commission

A commission paid by the reinsurer to the ceding company for the business transferred under a reinsurance agreement. This payment compensates the ceding company for its acquisition costs, such as agent commissions and underwriting expenses, associated with the original policies. It is typically a percentage of the ceded premiums.
