Net interest earned
Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-002295
The average rate of interest an insurer earns on its invested assets after deducting investment expenses but before federal income tax. Life insurers compare it with the interest rate assumed in their reserves and premiums, because the gap between the two drives the investment margin in policy profits. It is expressed as a percentage of mean invested assets.
