Premiums earned

The portion of an insurance premium that an insurer has recognized as income for coverage already provided over a specific period. As time passes and the insurer provides protection, the unearned premium gradually becomes earned. For example, if a one-year policy is paid in full, one-twelfth of the premium is earned each month.
