Earned premium (EP)
Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-001239
The portion of an insurance premium for which the insurer has already provided coverage, corresponding to the expired period of the policy term. As time passes, unearned premium becomes earned premium, reflecting the insurer's assumption of risk for that duration. For a one-year policy, the earned premium at any point is proportional to the fraction of the policy period that has elapsed.
