Unearned premium (UEP) (UP)

The portion of a premium that has been paid by the policyholder but for which the insurance coverage has not yet been provided. This represents a liability for the insurer, as it must be returned to the policyholder if the policy is canceled prematurely. It is recognized as revenue proportionally over the policy period.
