Noninsurance

The practice of not purchasing insurance to cover a particular risk, often because the risk is deemed too small, too large, or uninsurable. This approach to risk management involves retaining the financial consequences of potential losses. It differs from self-insurance, where an entity formally sets aside funds to cover its own losses.
