Original equipment manufacturer (OEM)

A company that produces parts or equipment that are marketed by another manufacturer. In insurance, particularly for auto physical damage claims, the term distinguishes parts made by the vehicle's producer from aftermarket or generic replacement parts. Many auto policies specify whether they will pay for original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts or less expensive aftermarket parts during a repair.
