Partial retention
Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-002494
The practice where an insured party assumes responsibility for a portion of a potential loss, while transferring the remaining portion to an insurer. This can be achieved through deductibles, self-insured retentions (SIRs), or co-insurance clauses. Partial retention reduces the premium paid to the insurer, as the insured bears a greater share of the risk for smaller or initial losses.
