The party to whom a promise is made in a contract or agreement. In the context of insurance, the promisee is typically the insured or beneficiary who is entitled to receive benefits or payments from the insurer under the terms of the policy. The insurer, as the promisor, undertakes to fulfill specific obligations upon the occurrence of a covered event.
