Secondary beneficiary

An individual or entity designated to receive the proceeds of a life insurance policy or annuity if the primary beneficiary is deceased or cannot be located at the time of the insured's death. This designation provides a contingent recipient for the policy benefits. The secondary beneficiary's claim is only activated if the primary beneficiary cannot fulfill their role.
