Primary beneficiary

The individual or entity designated by the policyholder to receive the proceeds of an insurance policy, such as a life insurance policy, upon the insured's death. This person or entity has the first right to the policy's payout. If the primary beneficiary predeceases the insured, the proceeds typically go to a contingent beneficiary.
