An independent entity that collects statistical data on losses and expenses from multiple insurers and then develops advisory rates, rating plans, and policy forms for its members or subscribers. These organizations promote consistency and fairness in the insurance market by providing a common basis for pricing. In the United States, the Insurance Services Office (ISO) is a prominent example for property and casualty insurance.
