Stand-alone terrorism coverage

An insurance policy purchased separately from standard property or casualty policies to provide protection against losses caused by acts of terrorism. This coverage addresses gaps left by exclusions for terrorism in conventional policies, which became more prevalent after the September 11, 2001, attacks. The Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) in the United States provides a federal backstop for certified acts of terrorism.
