Arms Export Control Act (1976)

A United States federal law that provides the authority for the President to control the export of defense articles and defense services. It requires that all such exports be consistent with the foreign policy and national security interests of the United States. The Act mandates congressional oversight of major arms sales and sets conditions for military assistance to other nations.
