Associate

A lawyer employed by a law firm who is not a partner or owner of the firm. Associates work on cases and for clients of the firm, receiving a salary rather than a share of the firm's profits. Law firms place associates on a 'partnership track' that may last from seven to ten years before a partnership decision is made.
