Bankruptcy discharge

A court order that releases a debtor from personal liability for certain debts, preventing creditors from taking any collection actions against the debtor for those debts. This is a primary goal of filing for bankruptcy. Not all debts are dischargeable; for example, certain taxes and student loans often are not.
