Bankruptcy estate

  1. All legal or equitable interests of the debtor in property as of the commencement of a bankruptcy case. This includes all assets, tangible and intangible, wherever located, that the debtor owns or has a right to possess at the time of filing. Certain property, such as exempt assets, may be excluded from the estate under federal or state law.

  2. All legal or equitable interests of the debtor at the time of the bankruptcy filing. The estate includes all property in which the debtor has an interest, even if it is owned or held by another person.
