Carbon offset

A measurable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions that is used to compensate for emissions occurring elsewhere. It represents one metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) that has been reduced or removed from the atmosphere. These offsets are generated by projects such as renewable energy development, reforestation, or methane capture, and can be bought and sold in voluntary or compliance markets.
