Debt collector

An individual or agency that pursues payment of debts owed by individuals or businesses. Debt collectors often work on behalf of creditors or purchase delinquent debts outright. Their activities are regulated by laws such as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) in the United States, which prohibits abusive and deceptive practices.
