Fair Debt Collection Practices Act

A federal law, known as the FDCPA, that prohibits abusive, deceptive, and unfair debt collection practices by third-party debt collectors. It regulates how collectors can communicate with consumers and what actions they can take to collect debts. The FDCPA does not apply to original creditors collecting their own debts.
