Fair Credit Reporting Act

A federal statute governing the collection, sharing, and use of consumer credit information by consumer reporting agencies (CRAs). The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) grants consumers specific rights, including the right to access the information in their credit files, to dispute inaccurate or incomplete data, and to know when their file has been used against them. It also limits who can view a consumer's credit report and for what purposes, such as credit applications, insurance underwriting, and employment screening.
