Consumer reporting agencies

Businesses that collect and sell information about individuals' credit history, bill payment history, and other personal financial data. These entities, also known as credit bureaus, compile this information into consumer reports that are used by lenders, insurers, and employers to make decisions. The activities of consumer reporting agencies (CRAs) are regulated by the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), which governs the accuracy and privacy of the information they handle.
