A company that collects and maintains information on consumers' credit histories, including their borrowing and repayment patterns. These agencies compile credit reports, which lenders use to assess an applicant's creditworthiness for loans, credit cards, or other financial products. The three major credit bureaus in the United States are Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
