Escape clause

A provision in a contract that allows one or both parties to avoid or terminate their obligations under certain specified circumstances. This clause provides an exit strategy if unforeseen events or conditions make performance impractical or undesirable. Common examples include force majeure clauses or contingencies in real estate contracts.
