Labor lien

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-002906

A statutory lien that secures payment for labor performed on or in connection with particular property, such as a worker's wages for improving land or processing goods. It attaches to the property the labor benefited and can be enforced by sale if the wages stay unpaid. It is narrower than a mechanic's lien, which also covers materials and contractors, and differs from an artisan's lien, which depends on the lienholder keeping possession of personal property.
