Mutual aid society

A voluntary association formed by individuals to provide financial or social support to its members, particularly in times of illness, unemployment, or death. Members contribute regular dues, which are then used to provide benefits such as sickness payments, funeral expenses, or pensions. These societies were precursors to modern insurance and social welfare programs.
