Office of the Inspector General

An independent oversight body within a government agency, tasked with combating waste, fraud, and abuse. These offices conduct audits, investigations, and evaluations to promote efficiency and integrity in government programs and operations. Each major federal department in the United States, such as the Department of Justice or Health and Human Services, has its own OIG, established by the Inspector General Act of 1978.
