Reexamination

A procedure in patent law allowing a third party or the patent owner to request that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) review the validity of an issued patent based on prior art. This process determines if the claims of a patent are still patentable in light of newly discovered or previously unconsidered references. It can result in the confirmation, amendment, or cancellation of patent claims.
