Tax lien

A legal claim placed on a taxpayer's property by a government entity to secure payment of overdue taxes. This lien gives the government a legal right to the taxpayer's assets, including real estate and personal property, if the tax debt is not satisfied. It typically attaches to all property and rights to property belonging to the taxpayer.
