Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding Systems (HS)

An internationally standardized system of names and numbers for classifying traded products, developed and maintained by the World Customs Organization. It comprises about 5,000 commodity groups, each identified by a six-digit code. The Harmonized System is used by customs authorities worldwide to apply tariffs, collect trade statistics, and enforce trade policies.
