Joint rate

A single freight charge applied to a shipment that moves over the lines of two or more carriers. This rate is established through an agreement between the participating carriers, covering the entire transportation journey from origin to destination. The revenue from a joint rate is typically divided among the carriers based on pre-determined prorate factors.
