Ageostrophic advection

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003361

The transport of an atmospheric property, such as temperature or vorticity, by the ageostrophic component of the wind. This process is a key driver of vertical motion in the atmosphere, linking upper-level divergence and convergence patterns to surface pressure changes. Ageostrophic advection is particularly strong in the entrance and exit regions of jet streaks, where it contributes to cyclogenesis.
