Ageostrophic wind
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003362
The vector difference between the actual wind and the geostrophic wind. This wind component represents the departure from geostrophic balance and is caused by factors like friction, changing pressure gradients, or curved flow. The ageostrophic wind is responsible for accelerating air parcels, causing convergence and divergence that drive vertical motion and weather system development.
