Semigeostrophic motion
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008789
Atmospheric flow that is approximately in geostrophic balance but includes some ageostrophic components, particularly those associated with frontogenesis and other mesoscale processes. This type of motion is described by the semigeostrophic equations. It represents a more realistic approximation of atmospheric dynamics than purely geostrophic flow.
