Clearance

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004334

The process by which clouds, fog, or precipitation dissipate or move out of a specific area, leading to improved visibility and sky conditions. This transition from obscured or overcast skies to clear or partly cloudy conditions is driven by changes in atmospheric stability, wind patterns, or the advection of drier air masses. A cold front's passage, for instance, results in rapid clearance as drier, cooler air displaces the moist air mass that supported cloud formation.
