Coronal mass ejection
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004709
A massive burst of solar wind and magnetic fields released from the sun's corona into space. These ejections can travel at speeds ranging from hundreds to thousands of kilometers per second, carrying billions of tons of plasma. When directed towards Earth, they can cause geomagnetic storms, disrupting satellites, power grids, and radio communications.
