Solar proton event
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009032
An eruption from the Sun that releases high-energy protons and other charged particles into space, often associated with solar flares or coronal mass ejections. These particles can reach Earth's magnetosphere and atmosphere, posing radiation hazards to spacecraft and astronauts. Such events can also cause polar cap absorption, disrupting radio communications.
