Proton

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-002155

  1. A subatomic particle with a positive electric charge, found in the nucleus of every atom. It is composed of two up quarks and one down quark, and its mass is approximately 1,836 times that of an electron. In atmospheric science, protons from solar flares can interact with the Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere, contributing to phenomena like the aurora.

  2. Solar activity levels with at least one high energy event (Class X Flares).
