Subatomic particle

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009335

A particle smaller than an atom, such as a proton, neutron, or electron. In atmospheric science, the most relevant subatomic particles are those involved in atmospheric electricity and high-energy phenomena, like cosmic rays. Cosmic rays are high-energy protons and atomic nuclei that enter the atmosphere from outer space, creating showers of secondary particles upon collision with air molecules.
