Electron
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005326
A stable subatomic particle with a negative elementary electric charge, found in all atoms and acting as the primary carrier of electricity in solids. In the atmosphere, free electrons are produced by ionization from cosmic rays and solar radiation, particularly in the ionosphere. Their movement and interactions contribute to atmospheric electricity and radio wave propagation.
