Electron
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-009167
1. An extremely small, negatively charged particle; the part of an atom that determines its chemical properties.
2. An elementary constituent of an atom that orbits the nucleus and has a negative charge. Beta decay is radioactive decay in which an electron is emitted from a nucleus.
3. Particles that orbit the nucleus as a cloud. They are negatively charged and balance the positive electrical charge of the protons in the nucleus. Interactions with electrons in the outer orbits affect an atom’s chemical properties.
