Ion
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-014940
1. An electrically charged atom, radical (such as SO42-), or molecule formed by the loss or gain of one or more electrons.
2. An electrically charged atom in which the number of electrons does not equal the number of protons.
3. An electrically charged atom or group of atoms.
4. An atom with a net electrical charge. An ion that has too many electrons is negatively charged (anion), and an ion with too few electrons is positively charged (cation).
5. Atom or molecule that has too many or too few electrons, causing it to have an electrical charge.
6. Electrically charged atom or group of atoms that has lost or gained electrons; a loss makes the resulting particle positively charged; a gain makes the particle negatively charged. .
7. Electrically charged atom. molecule. or particle.
