Ion
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006636
An atom or molecule that has acquired an electrical charge by gaining or losing one or more electrons. In the Earth's atmosphere, ions are formed through processes such as cosmic ray bombardment, ultraviolet radiation, and lightning discharges, particularly in the ionosphere. These charged particles influence atmospheric conductivity, chemical reactions, and the propagation of radio waves.
